Sam Hornish Jr. is a racing driver who has won the IndyCar Series championship three times and also raced in NASCAR.
Career[]
Hornish first races in IndyCars for Panther Racing. He won two championships for the team in 2001 and 2002. He moved to Team Penske in 2004. He became highly sucessful at his new team, and his decision to join Team Penske was regarded by Hornish to be the best decision of his career later in life. He won many races in 2004 and 2005, but finally delievered Penske its first championship since joining what was then the Indy Racing League in 2003. In 2008, he retired from IndyCar racing. He soon began a career in NASCAR, driving for Team Penske, which also fields a NASCAR team. He left the top level Sprint Cup Series due to limited funding, but returned in 2012 when Penske's regular driver (AJ Allmendinger) was banned for drug use. He has been one of the drivers often mooted to do The Double, attempting to compete in Indianapolis 500 and Coca Cola 600 in the same day.
